My name is Benjamin Sahler and I
was born in Stuttgart
on 20th Dec 1973. In
2002, I married Julia Scholz, a
speech therapist, born on 4th March 1974. Our daughter Luzia Cosima was born on
29th Dec 2002.

School qualifications:
|
My school career at the "Albert-Einstein" grammar school in Böblingen
ended in June 1993, attaining A-levels in mathematics and music. Awards I
received during my schooling include the German Environmental Award.

Civilian service: |
I
subsequently undertook my alternative civilian service at a youth guest house
in Cologne
until 1995. | |

Degree:
|
In Autumn 1995, I began a degree course in "Music theatre directing" at
the Hamburg College of Music and Theatre (Management:: Götz Friedrich), which I
completed in 2001, passing with distinction". My dissertation was called The
Operas of Ralph Vaughan Williams. For my final production, I staged the
opera Castor et Pollux by Jean-Philippe Rameau at the Forumtheater
of the International College of Music Hamburg.
At the same time, I began a degree course in
"business studies" at the Fern-Universität in Hagen, in which I attained the intermediate
diploma in 1998.

Internships:

During my degree course, I completed several internships, 1996 at the
Nationaltheater in Mannheim under the direction of Renate Ackermann, 1997 for
the stages of the City of Cologne under the direction of Robert Carssens, for
Götz Friedrich at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1998 and for Götz Friedrich at
the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki in 1999 .

Professional experience:
|
I acquired my first position in 2000 at the Suedostbayerische Staedtetheater in Passau as an assistant
director, director and producer (under the directorship of Johannes Reitmeier):
Here in 2001, I staged the opera: Der Kaiser von Atlantis (The
Emperor of Atlantis) by Viktor Ullmann,:Haensel und Gretel (Hansel
and Gretel) by E. Humperdinck (half scenic for
children) and Don Pasquale by G. Donizett in 2002.
In 2003, I changed to the Anhaltisches
Theater Dessau (directorship: Johannes Felsenstein) as an assistant
director and director.
Since 2005, I have been the art director of the Mitteldeutsche Kammeroper Wittenberg
e. V. (formerly Mitteldeutsches Landestheater)
In addition, I have been working as a freelance stage director since 2000 in the areas of opera, musicals
and acting.

Passau and the Cultural Honorary Award
of Fürstenzell for the musical
productions in Jaegerwirth (near Passau). | |

In the years 2003-2007, I wrote a general portrayal about the "Operas
of Ralph Vaughan Williams" from a musicology and drama perspective. This
deals with the first monograph about the opera production of Vaughan Williams
with the aim of fostering interest in this field of the composer's work.

Additional skills:

I have good computer skills in all MS Office products.
In the music field, I am proficient in the operation
of the synetheziser and also computer-aided music editing including
recording techniques using programs such
as Cubase, Wavelab and Finale.
Furthermore, I have acquired extensive knowledge in
digital video editing.
